The following scale maximizes the psychometric property of M-CHAT-R
Low risk: Total score is 0-2 ; If the child is younger than 24 months, do it again after the child is 2 years old. There is no need to take action unless during follow-up you detect the risk of a child's autism disorder.
Moderate risk: Total score from 3-7 ; Follow up with the M-CHAT-R Follow up questionnaire to get more information about the responses indicating the risk. autism. If the child's screening score by the Follow up questionnaire is still 2 or higher, the child is confirmed to have a positive screening result. The action required is to take the child for a diagnostic evaluation and to define an early intervention program. If the Follow up questionnaire score is 0-1, the child is determined to have a negative screening result, no action is needed, unless follow-up indicates the child's risk for an autism spectrum disorder. The child should be screened again during the next physical exam.
High risk: Total score 8-20 ; Screening with the Follow up questionnaire can be skipped and the child is immediately referred for a diagnostic evaluation and early intervention program to be determined.
